July 11, 1901

Died: Mrs. Julia Latimer, wife of Robert Latimer, died at her home in Muncy Creek Township, early Wednesday morning, aged 68 years, 1 month and 28 days.

A wagon, manufacturer of Mechanicsburg, has made thirty-five wagons the past season, for gypsies, ranging in price from $800 to $1600.

A party composed of the following boys is camping out at Tallman's Island: Ross and Richard Edwards, Theodore and Walter Schoch, Ray Beeber, William Kelchner and Harry Tallman.

On last Tuesday, July 2nd, a son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Moss Brenisen.

The Sprout, Waldron & Co. baseball team administered a decisive defeat to the Robinson Mfg. Co. team Saturday, by the score of 6-0.

George Gowers, who has been in Pittsburgh for several days, returned home Saturday. He will go back this week to accept a position in a large music store.

With damage estimates mounting hourly, New York State and the Federal Government today shouldered the full cost of removing debris and rehabilitating the flood-wrecked counties of New York STate where forty-one persons have lost their lives since Sunday.

Died: Mrs. Annie Green, of this place has received word of the sudden death of her granddaughter, Elizabeth Jane Green, 22-year old daughter of LaMont and Elizabeth Shiffler Green, of Los Angeles, California.

Richard Cameron, nine-week old son of Mr. and MRs. Harry Cameron, of Montgomery, died at 11:55 o'clock Sunday night following an operation performed Friday afternoon.

Jack Marshall, brother of James Marshall, who was killed when his motorcycle crashed into a car at the Dewart intersection, died at the Evangelical Hospital at Lewisburg, from injuries received in the crash.

Blinded by the lights of an approaching car, at 11 o'clock Friday night, Hall Wasser, of Pennsdale drove his car into the abutment of a bridge at Twin Run, between Halls Station and Montoursville, and suffered lacerations of the head. A. W. Lawsch, also of Pennsdale, was a passenger in the car, and received body bruises.

A turnout of 176 youngsters was recorded on Tuesday at the opening day of the summer recreation program in Muncy,

Hilner's Store, a neighborhood market in Muncy for the past 14 years, will come under new ownership Saturday, July 9, when Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Florent of Highland Park, Ill, take over.

Tommy Gordner, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Gordner, suffered a broken jaw and severe brush burns in a bicycle accident.

Births: Mr. and Mrs. Howard Walborn, of near Turbotville, a son, Dickey Eugene, June 29. MOther former Mary Hill. Mr. and Mrs. Otis Wilson, of Eagles Mere, a son, Randy Wade, June 30. Mother former Barbara Thomas. Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Miller, of near Williamsport, a son, Eric Lewis, July 1. Mother former Margaret Newcomer. Mr. and Mrs. Delroy Lynch, of Montgomery, a daughter, Darla Mae, July 2. Mother former Maomi Derr. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Glidewell of Benton, a son, David Lee, July 2. Mother former Josephine Stackhouse. Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Baxter, of near Muncy, a son, Mark Walter, July 3. Mother former Lillian Hall. Mr. and Mrs. Robert rohm, of Muncy, are the parents of a daughter, born July 3. She has been named Denise Elaine. The mother is the former Meriam Bieber.

Deaths: Final respects were paid Saturday to Mrs. Desmond G. Reed when her funeral services were conducted, thus marking an end to the continuing efforts of one of the community's hardest working volunteer citizens over the last four decades. Mrs. Reed died June 29, 1960, at the Muncy Valley hospital. Here age was 71.

Elwood G. Laurenson, 52, police chief in Hughesville for the past eight years, died suddenly Tuesday afternoon, July 5, at the Williamsport Hospital.

The illness that struck 39 people at the Hughesville Camp Meeting has been identified as Salmonella Group B., according to Terry Schreiber, chief technologist of the laboratory of Muncy Valley Hospital.

Corey Wallis took first place for the third consecutive year in the annual Mill Hall Pentathlon. She set a new record for 50-yard breast stroke at 33.7.

Miss Patricia Ann Rand, of Maryland, and Mahlon Kint Miller, RD1 Montgomery, were united in marriage May 25, 1985 at the Clinton Baptist Church.

Births: A son, Winston Ryan, born to Mr. and Mrs. Keith Clayton of Georgia on July 9. Mrs. Clayton is the former Terrie McMullen of Montgomery and Keith is originally from Hughesville. A son, Troy Edward, born to Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Charles of Muncy on July 14. Mother is former Cheryl Kepner. A son, Shane Benton, was born to Mr. and Mrs. Clark Strayer of Muncy on July 7. MOther is the former Sherry Kahle.

In just a few days, names like Voker, Guido, Jens and Sven will be heard around Muncy as part of an exchange program that began several year ago under the guidance and direction of Heinz Backhus, a soccer team from Ocholt, West Germany, will be visiting.

Several fitness courts and walking and jogging trails in Muncy and its environs are planned by the Muncy School District in conjunction with the Community Action Program.

The U.S. Conference of Mayors announced that Diane Voneida, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. LeRoy (Pete Voneida, of Hughesville, is selected as a John J. McCloy Fellow.

Deaths: Mrs. Helen Banghart Beinlich, 79, of Muncy died July 10 in Williamsport Hospital; T. Justin Myers, Sr., 82, of Hughesville died July 11 in the skilled nursing unit of Muncy Valley Hospital; Dr. Michael E. Hydock, 79, of Sonestown, former chief of staff at Muncy Valley Hospital, died July 11 following a lengthy illness; Harry M. Shaner, 84, of Muncy, died July 14 in the Skilled Nursing Unit at Muncy Valley Hospital.

Newly hired elementary teachers Tammy Hoover and Rae Keller Hollister were introduced to school board members by elementary principal Dr. Portia Brandt at the July 17 meeting.

Borough council member and streets committee chairman Rick Ohnmeiss assured members at the July 11 borough council meeting, that the issue "has not been forgotten." Ohnmeiss and others are concerned about the amount of heavy truck traffic through the borough and the promise of more trucks in the near future.

Mr. and Mrs. Jim Nuss, Muncy, announced the engagement of their daughter, Michelle Lee to Mark Forsythe of King of Prussia, PA.

Births: Mr. and MRs. Dana Houseknecht, Muncy, announce the birth of a son on July 5, 2000, in the Williamsport Hospital. The mother is the former Amanda Betts. Mr. and Mrs. William Harding, Montgomery, announce the birth of a son on July 11, 2000 in the Williamsport Hospital. The mother is the former Cristy Weller.

Deaths: William O. Trimble, 78, of Pennsdale died Thursday, July 13, at Sycamore Manor; Kathryn "Kate" Laylon, 62, of Williamsport, died July 15, at the Williamsport Hospital; Mary S. Phillips, 86, formerly of Muncy, died July 9, at Messiah Village Retirement Community, Mechanicsburg; Trudy L. Losell, 38, of Muncy, died Sunday, July 16, at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital, Philadelphia; Helen S.
