Patriotism abounds at Myers Elementary

MUNCY - Over fifty veterans came to Ward L. Myers Elementary School for Veterans Day on Monday afternoon, November 11. A thirty minute entertaining program was dedicated to them and organized by the students and teachers from grades K through 6.

A poem was read by Emily McMichael to greet the veterans who were also honored with their presence by rotating their names on stage with an overhead projector. Energizing patriotic music playaed as the veterans marched into the Elementary School's 'cafetorium' that was spirited in red, white and blue. "We have planned this ceremony in the Muncy community to honor our men and women who have sacrificed so much for our country," announced Principal, Frank Jankowski.

A video program historically presented Armistice Day, the first day celebrated for veterans of war. Five students were chosen to give a brief history about each branch of the services. Another highlight enjoyed by many was when the third graders sang the song "God Bless America" and accompanied it with sign language.

Many of the veterans who came are related to a current student at the school. TV Channel 16 also put the story on the news that night.
