Montgomery Locals Apr. 12, 2017

April 13, 2017
By JADE HEASLEY , The Luminary

As a Montgomery resident, I know the Montgomery Lions Club has put on the annual Easter Egg Hunt for the previous 58 consecutive years. This year will the 59th, that's a lot of years dedicated to many good memories of kids going to the Easter Egg Hunt. I, myself, can still remember the anticipation as well as a few hundred other kids as we stood with our toes on the boundary line waiting for the siren blast to signal the start of a minute or two of a happy fluster of frenzied candy-grabbing. Going home with a respectable haul of candy eggs and chocolate bunny coins was always a fun way to start the holiday weekend.

The world has changed quite a lot since I was child, and it's certainly changed much more since the first Easter Egg Hunt back in 1958. But the one of the constant good things that Montgomery children have been able to count on in the last few decades, has been the Easter Egg Hunt.

Volunteer members of the Montgomery Lions spend weeks and weeks preparing and planning for a busy morning and afternoon of sorting and spreading candy. Afterwards, they circulate the crowds with more candy, after the fact to make sure that no little ones go home with an empty basket.

These members are truly unsung heroes!

And to you, readers, I wish you all a very Happy Easter!
