Muncy locals June 7, 2017

By Staff | Jun 9, 2017

I read in Rep. Garth Everett’s newsletter that the Pennsylvania Department of Health has revised Pennsylvania’s school immunization requirements for the 2017-18 school year. Parents and guardians are now required to get their children fully immunized prior to the fifth day of school, or the students will be excluded from school. Up to now, parents had eight months to meet school immunization requirements. If a student is in the middle of an immunization series and it is too soon for the next dose, the parents must provide the school nurse with a written plan, signed by their health care provider, within the first five days of school.

For those of you who enjoy gardening, this Saturday stop in the gardens of the Master Gardeners on County Farm Road (off Warrensville Road) from 10 to 11 a.m, to learn what’s growing in the garden and to help answer any questions you may have about your garden. They will also have some guided tours along the county trail.

Get ready to pay more in vehicle registrations. Upon review, the county has declared that Penn Township has four bridges that are structurally deficient, and Moreland Township has two. The bridge on Crawley Road over Sugar Run in Moreland Township is only one lane and needs to be two according to federal guidelines. About 50 cars a day travel over it. There are several other bridges in the county, about 40 so far, that are in need of great repair, many not meeting weight restrictions. In order to pay for this, commissioners are suggesting enacting a 5 dollar registration fee matched by an additional 5 dollars through the federal Surface Transportation program to cover an 8 million dollar loan at 2 percent interest. They will be voting on this June 15.

Congratulations to the 78 Muncy graduates of 2017! The weather was perfect Friday night for the commencement ceremonies.
