Muncy Locals Sept.7, 2017

September 8, 2017
By BARBARA C. BARRETT , The Luminary

It's Pennsylvania Produce Month and September is full of fresh new vegetables to harvest. The step is to take the leap and try something new. It is not only rewarding to the palate, but a plus for health according to the Pennsylvania Vegetable Marketing and Research Program. Thanks to a nice big spaghetti squash, a cultivar native to our country, and given to me by Stacie Hart that was grown in her garden, I made it and tasted it for the first time. I followed her directions for preparation. By cutting it and roasting it to perfection at 400 degrees, I then added my homemade tomato sauce. I shredded some fresh carrots for the first time and added them to the sauce and topped the dish with fresh Ramano cheese. It was even better the second night.

Come to downtown Muncy this month and you will have two opportunities to celebrate on Main Street. The Corvettes on Main Street will be held on Saturday, Sept. 16 and Muncy 4th Friday will be held on Friday, Sept 22. The extra event for the 22nd is a makeup rain date from June's 4th Friday which was cancelled. The MPBA wanted the vendors to have the opportunity to have the 3 events as promised when they signed up to participate. In turn, all proceeds are turned back to the Muncy community as in providing flower pots, and soon some benches along Main Street.

Be sure to get to the Senior Expo in Pennsdale on Tuesday. If you have any unused medicines or prescriptions, the drug MedReturn box will be there for disposal. Look for it at the Sheriff's table. Flu vaccinations also will be available and document shredding from 9:30 a.m. to noon. Lunch will be served by the Muncy Township Volunteer fire company.

Comforting wishes go to Barbara Wood who broke her leg and will be in the Williamsport hospital for a few weeks. She is in the Gibson Rehab Unit if you wish to say hello.
