Expansion provides growth for medical practice

HUGHESVILLE - A local medical practice, Family Practice Center in Hughesville, is undergoing an expansion to provide more room for new patients and continuing growth for a long list of in-house services. A 600 sq. ft. addition has been added over the summer and is now ready to start the interior phase of the design. "This has been a pretty interesting project so far," said Dr. Quinn Kirk, co-owner of Family Practice, P.C. Patient exam rooms are expanding from 10 to 15 and the lab room is increasing in size as well.

Many of the services they provide are done in-house according to office manager, Tina Deiter. "We do a lot of same day services including blood work, urine analysis, and strep cultures. "We can do almost evverything here, even in-house x-rays."

"The practice is growing, and we can bring in more providers for patients," she said. Currently there are two medical doctors and 6 physician assistants with another one to start later this month. Deiter explained there will be a total of 8 providers to meet the growing patient base. "We are centralized here, and it is convenient for our patients," she said.

The building was constructed ten years ago, and it has outgrown its space during that time. It is the only medical practice in the Hughesville borough and it serves outlying areas also. The addition was started in July with a new handicap access. There is one in the back of the building to use and more parking will be added on the east side of the facility.

The patient waiting room will be updated at no inconvenience to them, and will be much quieter, noted Dieter.

Services include disease management, health maintenance, pediatrics, wellness visits, onsite labs and x-rays. Also they perform large joint inspections, small office procedures such as skin lesion biopsies and a wide range of services for women from pap smears to administering Nexplanon, a form of birth control.

Dieter has been with Family Practice for more than 4 years and relocated to this office from Herndon. As an office manager and specialist diagnosing insurance codes, Dieter said she loves the challenge of finding solutions to patients' problems. "We are very community driven," she added.
