Third-place consolation game denies Hughesville’s return to PIAA

Southern Columbia defense stopped the Spartans in the third-place consolation game and denied Hughesville a return trip to the PIAA tournament.

Hughesville was limited to just nine first half points while forcing 10 turnovers. In the Taylor Mason scored 21 second half points and finished with 22 as the Spartans’ rally fell short, 54-43, Saturday evening at Milton High School. In the loss Isaiah Savage finished the game with two field goals.

Hughesville played without its second-leading scorer, Matt Myers, after he was injured in the semi-final game against Loyalsock and had to sit out.

Loyalsock defeated Hughesville 58-36 in the District 4 Class AAA semifinals at Williamsport. Lancers’ defense stopped the Spartans’ guards and forced 18 turnovers, including 16 in the first three quarters.

Hughesville center, Taylor Mason, led Hughesville with 21 points, grabbed 13 rebounds and blocked four shots. Mason scored 17 of Hughesville’s first 19 points
