Montgomery Locals May 9, 2018

May 9, 2018
By JADE HEASLEY , The Luminary

One of the oldest local rural landmarks just got a new look this past week. Chris and Jill Ulrich of Allenwood had the honor of having their wooden barn, built around 1870, chosen to be painted with the official Certified Angus Beef logo. Their barn was just one of forty around the nation to be given the honor. The Ulrichs have been farming on their land for three generations, and began raising Angus beef cattle in 1997. In addition to farming, Chris and Jill are both long-time teachers at Montgomery. Chris teaches technology education and agriculture and Jill teaches Pre-K.

The "barn branding" took about three days and was done by artist Troy Freeman. The Ulrichs had a gathering at their farm on Friday to celebrate. They hosted a picnic and family members, people in the farming community, school students, representatives from Certified Angus Beef and Weis Markets, and County Commissioner Rick Mirabito were on hand to help mark the occasion.
