150 years ago

An informal meeting of soldiers and citizens was held on the evening of May 19th at Gernard's Music Store to make arrangements for the decoration of the graves of our fallen soldiers.

Captain I.B. Davis and wife; Wm. Heisen Esq.,and wife; and D. H. Dreisbach, Esq., and Simon Cameron Esq., left this Borough on Wednesday last for a trip through Missouri and Kansas.

Trout fishing this season is attended with small results.

May 1893

125 years ago

The Daily Record of Roanoke, Va., describes a large and costly church edifice now approaching completion in that growing city and says, "under the direction of Henry M. Fahnestock, a veteran church builder, with an experience of nearly 40 years, the work of completing St. Mark's Lutheran Church is progressing rapidly." Mr. Fahenestock has long been famous as a carpenter and builder and he still has many old friends in Muncy to whom frequent good reports regarding him are a source of pride and pleasure.

We are informed that a meeting of the shareholders of the new Muncy Banking Co. will be held in the near future for the purpose of selecting a Board of Directors.

George Stolz has entered into a contract with Wolf, of Chambersburg, to place new machinery in the well known Willow Grove Mill, near this place.

Miss Effie C. Munro, formerly of Muncy, graduated from the ?Women's Medical College of Pa.

The foundation walls for the new residence being erected by John Stauffer on S. Main St. have been completed.

June 1918

Mrs. William Haines of Anyhoe Farm, Pennsdale, was visited by Mrs. J.H. Harrison of Grand Rapids, Michigan.

The Captain John Brady Grange near Pennsdale celebrated its 10th anniversary.

Rigid enforcement of the ban on pleasure driving will take place in this vicinity as well as nearby communities, it was determined at a meeting of the Lycoming County Rationing Board No. 2 when it met with the District Manager.

James M. Brittain, a prominent lawyer of Philadelphia, son of W. F. Brittain and brother of Miss Martha Brittain, will be the speaker at the Commencement exercises when 41 member of the class of 1943 graduate at Muncy High School Auditorium.

Miss Betty Rothfuss, Muncy, became the bride of Harold T. Evans, Muncy on Sunday afternoon.

Sgt. Clay Good, Camp Polk, La., Muncy's singing Sgt. met with an accident Tuesday, May 18 while riding in the kitchen truck on the field range, he was thrown from the truck breaking his jaw in three places.

The George Stein grocery and clothing store in Millville was severely damaged by fire and water Sunday noon.

Engagement announced of Helen Ott, Muncy, to Gilbert Shafer of Montoursville.

Died: Edward Frontz, 75, Hughesville, May 18; William Fiest, 79, Hughesville May 20.

The area's noted picnic resort, Trout Pond Park, will open for the 1968 season on May 26 according to owners Mr. and Mrs. Paul Guisewhite.

Robert N. Wilt, publisher and editor of The Luminary, was elected to the board of directors of Pennsylvania Society of Newspaper Editors at the conciliation of the annual editor's seminar at Penn State.

Joyce Johnson, Muncy, will graduate at Bloomsburg State College; Thomas C. Ott, Muncy, to be graduated at Stout State; Miss Betty Jane Given, Muncy to be awarded Master's Degree.
