Montgomery locals June 20, 2018

June 20, 2018

Did you know that our local stretch of Route 15 was originally an

Indian footpath? As it turns out, there are other major roads in

Lycoming County that share that same heritage. To hear all of the

details of the history of these roads, be sure to attend the Montgomery

Area Historical Society's Third Thursday presentation on June 21st at

6:30 pm in the Adam Room. Jim Dunn will be making a presentation about

his research into the footpaths that were established by the Indians.

When the talk is over there will be an Open House so you can have the

opportunity to see some wonderfully vivid pieces of Montgomery's past.

Peruse the old photos and curiosities that have shaped our community in

the last century and a half. Perhaps you'll discover something about

your own family's history.

The Adam Room is located in the old Adams' Print Shop on Houston

Avenue, just below the Montgomery Area Public Library. The windows that

once posted the school's homeroom assignments at the end of every summer

are now filled with displays about local history that are changed often.

All Historical Society Events are free and open to the public. If you

aren't a member, you may want to consider becoming one. The membership

fee is ten dollars a year for an adult, a small price to pay to preserve

the history of our community for future generations.

THOT "Few will have the greatness to bend history itself; but each of

us can work to change a small portion of events, and in the total; of

all those acts will be written the history of this generation." Robert Kennedy

Happy birthday to Lori Shuck who is marking her special day on June

20th.

Happy anniversary to Seth and Danielle Heasley, who will be celebrating

on June 21st.
