The Muncy Luminary

150 years ago

1868

Marriage at the residence of the bride's father, in Baltimore, on the 17th Clarence A. Evans, Muncy, to Louisa V. Knowles.

Married the 29th ult, this Borough by the Rev. G.T. McNair Mr. Christian S. Hess of Port Penn, to Miss Mary E. Baker of Pennsville.

On Thursday night of last week burglars broke open the safe at the Muncy Manufacturing Company's office taking with them for their trouble eleven cents in money. The hotel of Henry Gundrum was also entered and several bottles of liquor taken.

It is reported that a good clay has been found at the foot of Bald Eagle Mountain in Clinton township, suitable for making brick tile, etc., and that it will be worked in the near future.

Price Two Cents

Died: Cloyd H. Anderson, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Anderson, died at his home o Pepper street Sunday morning of pneumonia. He was aged eighteen years; John A. Winter died at his home on Mechanic street Saturday morning of pneumonia at age 28; Minnie R. Wilson died at her home Tuesday evening of pneumonia; Miss Clara Butler, formerly of Muncy, died Oct. 14 of Spanish influenza; Ruth A. Brittain, infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. frank Brittain, died Monday afternoon; MRs. Anna L. Green, of Picture Rocks, received word of the death of her daughter, Mrs. Mary Green Brobst, and her husband Clyde Brobst, at Trenton, N.J.. Both deaths resulted from typhoid pneumonia; Storres A. Coppes, son of J.A. Coppes, died at his home in Sunbury, on Thursday last, aged 27 years; Wilbert Beal, the 11 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Beal, died at the family home on Oct. 22.

Married Mrs. Anna S. Herbert received announcement of the marriage of her son, Clarence Willis Herbert to Miss Edna Norton, of Los Angles at Chabalis, Wash., Oct. 7th.

A letter dated October has just been received from mSgt. Oscar F. (Franklin) Reuther of N. Washington Street, who is somewhere on the fighting front.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Evangelical Church, Pennsdale, for Charles Gray who died at his home in Pennsdale on Saturday after a lingering illness.

Mrs. M.E. Reeder dies at her home on W. Penn Street on Oct. 24; George R. Fuller died suddenly at his home on West Water street Wednesday morning.

The son born to Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Springman at the Muncy Valley hospital Oct. 24 has been named Thomas Michael.

Mr. and Mrs. Walter Baxter moved from the John Fogelman farm to the village Saturday.

The daughter born to Mr. and MRs. Eugene Michael, Clarkstown, has been named Nancy Mae.

Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Fouset spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Bryan Houseknecht and family of Muncy.

Births: Mr. and Mrs. David Mosser, Allenwood, a daughter, Oct. 16. Mother former Linda Bower; Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Farrar, of near Muncy, daughter, Oct. 19. Mother former Sally Richart; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Widell, Muncy, daughter, Oct. 22. Mother former Lillian Smith; Mr. and Mrs. Richard King, Milton, daughter, Oct. 22. Mother former Lou Ann Bonawitz.

Died: Raymond R. Winter, Mifflinburg, broth of Mrs. Ransom Plotts, Huntersville, died Oct. 20.

Mr. and Mrs. Paul L. Bennett, Picture Rocks, has announced the engagement of their daughter, Mill Carol E. Bennett, to James D. Baker, of Milton.

Miss Janice Helen Kreppeneck, of Montgomery, and Roland Fiester, Hughesville, exchanged wedding vows on Oct. 19.
