Hughesville Locals Nov. 14, 2018

November 15, 2018
By NANCY HODGE , The Luminary

I hope everyone was able to see the Lycoming County Veterans Day parade last Saturday. Although there were snow flurries in the morning and a strong, chilly wind out of the west, the sun shone brightly, the bands sounded great, and the floats and marching participants combined for one of the longest parades in Hughesville for many years. Please take some time to check out the "Hometown Heroes" banners that were added to the lampposts along Main Street.

Ashkar, Renn, and Ferrell Elementary Schools, plus Hughesville High School, all held Veterans Day assemblies at which the staff and students honored local veterans and presented musical selections and readings. It's a great sight to see all the students reciting the Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag and to see the respect and attention they paid to the visitors in their schools.

The East Lycoming Historical Society is gearing up for the holiday season with another exciting schedule of Polar Express train displays and experiences at the ELHS Museum at 66 South Main Street. The museum will have expanded hours beginning on Friday, November 23 and continuing through December 23, 2018. Don't miss the opportunity to pick up some great gifts for everyone on your list at the museum. From books to art prints, plus a wide selection of handmade items by the Fiber Fillies, you can take care of a lot of shopping while you enjoy the displays and newly acquired items at the museum.
