Hughesville Locals Dec. 5, 2018

December 7, 2018
By NANCY HODGE , The Luminary

Despite the recent stretch of rainy weather, it certainly looks like Christmas in downtown Hughesville. The wreaths have been illuminated since the Christmas parade last Sunday and it's so pretty when you drive up and down Main Street. The tree lighting and parade have given us a good start for the holiday season.

The mid-November snowstorm came just after most of the trees in town had dropped a majority of their leaves, so the plowed snow covered piles of leaves along most streets. As of this writing, the leaf collection crew and machinery have not made much of a dent in the amount of wet, soggy leaves in most of the residential areas. I hope that the next week or so will be dry and will allow for some final fall cleanup before we get any more snow.

Fans of Hughesville High School have another reason to be proud of the work and dedication demonstrated by students and staff. Pennsylvania Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding recently announced the winners of "Oh, Say, Can You Sing?", a star-spangled sing-off on Facebook that will put talented Pennsylvanians center stage during the 103rdPennsylvania Farm Show. One of ten singers from across the state who will perform at the 103rd annual PA Farm Show is Asiah Savage, a member of the Junior class at HHS. Congratulations, Asiah! Each of the winners will sing live at 8 AM each day of the 2019 Pennsylvania Farm Show, from January 5-12. Finalists were selected by a panel of judges and then posted for fan voting by Facebook likes. Asiah was the vocal soloist for the HHS Spartan Marching Band in their 2018 show at the Varsity football games, and is a member of the HHS Chorus.
