The Muncy Luminary

150 years ago

1868

Died in this borough on the 24th ult., Mr. Thomas Davis in the 87th year of his age.

Died in Muncy Creek township, Elizabeth Beeber, oldest daughter of Isaac and Mary Beeber age 32 years.

Mr. and Mrs. Philip Shay, for a number of years merchant of this Borough, has removed to Watsontown, where he is carrying on the mercantile business, and has received the appointment of Postmaster of that place.

Died on Nov. 23, at the residence of Mrs. W.M. Rankin, Muncy, after an acute attack of chronic illness, William R. Calkins, in his fourteenth year.

Miss Platt, of Elimsport, visited her sister, Mrs. Thomas Opp last week.

An epidemic like the grip is prevailing at present in our community.

We regret to announce that Captain William Corson is lying dangerously ill at his home in this Borough, with only slight hopes of his recovery.

The new motor patrol of the state highway department started operations Saturday, Men stationed in Muncy and Lock Haven operated in this section.

Mrs. A.M. Farr, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Morris Worthing at Curwensville on Saturday after a short illness.

MRs. Charles Lose died Sunday evening at her home in Montoursville as a result of a stroke.

IN line with other localities that have installed electric lighting systems, Muncy township will no doubt soon enjoy the same privileges.

Muncy will soon enjoy the service of a bus line to McEwensville and from there to Milton, if the plans of the Smith Transportation Company do not miscarry.

Polish Slaves in Reich-More than 2,500,000 Poles had been deported to the Reich by the end of June 1943, according to the Polish underground paper, Czyn.

Word was received on Thanksgiving Day by Mr. and Mrs. Harry Dugan, of Muncy, that their son, Pfc. Milford Dugan, a paratrooper in the United States Army, had been killed in action in the European Theatre of War on November 15.

Brush Fire Extinguished by Muncy Men-Five Acres Burned in Muncy Home Area.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon for Miss Lillian Eves of South Market Street, who died at the Rothfuss Clinic on Nov. 27.

A fire occurred at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Corneilson of North Market Street about two o'clock Saturday afternoon.

William R. Bastian, of Montgomery was commissioned a Second Lieutenant at graduation exercises held at Chanute Field, Illinois Monday,.

Pennsdale-Mrs. Stuart Reed is teaching the Bush School for several weeks, substituting for Miss Bessie Shaner.

Lorane Meeker of Turbotville and Walter Moser of Oak Run were united in marriage Thanksgiving morning.

Kenneth Moser, who was in ducted into the U.S.Navy left Friday for the Great Lakes Naval Training Station.

Hughesville-Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon for Lewis M. Ball, aged 85, who died Friday morning, Nov. 26, at his home.

Harold Ryder of Unityville and Calvin Meyers of Lairdsville called on Clarkstown friends Sunday night.

Howard N. Ott, well-known Muncy area sportsman, has been selected for the Pennsylvania American Legion Sports Hall of Fame and will be inducted into the order at a special recognition banquet in Lebanon on Nov. 23.

Stan Schuyler, veteran head football coach at Muncy high school, told the athletic committee of the Muncy School District board at a special meeting on Nov. 19 that he intended to resign as coach.

Engagement announced of Pamela Gail, Milton, to Second Lieutenant and H. Porter Rathmell, U.S.M.C.R., son of Mr. and Mrs. John N. Rathmell, of near Muncy.
