MUNCY CREEK - A long-closed road will soon reopen as area supervisors approved of a $125,920 bid for the project on Thursday, Oct. 31.

Turkey Bottom Road has been closed for about four months since an unnamed tributary of Muncy Creek flooded, completely washing the road away.

With the lowest bid, Getgen Site Company was named the recipient and the job is expected to be completed in 60 to 90 days.

"The township engineer reviewed the bid and said it was satisfactory," said Lloyd Smith, roadmaster.

The supervisors cited the many bureaucratic steps as part of the delay.

"The bids were opened at the township's Oct. 21 meeting, but "because of the nature of the bids, the township wanted them to be reviewed as a whole before it was awarded," said J. Michael Wiley, township solicitor.

The road work was designed to thwart future issues to ensure it doesn't wash away again, he said.

Thursday's emergency meeting was called in order to facilitate speedy construction in anticipation of winter.

The damage was "massive," said Cindy Newcomer, secretary.

"Ten or 12 feet down the road is gone," she said. "It took more than one lane of traffic."

The construction company will work to secure the road by securing it to bedrock, along with other means, she said.

Supervisors Dan DeMuro, Sr. was also present, but Stephen Culver was absent.
