Nov. 28, 1871

The Muncy Mills was sold at public sale on Thursday last to Wm. Trimp, Chas. Gortner and Pierce Butler, for $13,000.

The boom at this place was located on Thursday last, and work on construction will begin at once.

This photo appeared in the December 8, 1949 issue of The Luminary. Some of the names, we are sure, you will recognize. The caption read: Here is a group of the Kindergarten children as they prepared for a project. The children are as follows: Karen Dirner; Arlene Yagel, Dick Rath, Frank Rupert, Peggy McClintock, and Susan Kerfoot. Some were not present when the picture taken.

Nov. 27, 1919

Harry and Joseph Toner, Bellefonte, who have been employed at the Crawford House, this place, were placed under arrest by Private C.P. Snyder, of the state police last Friday charged with stealing $400 worth of whiskey, champagne, gin, rum, and "Kimmel" from the hotel cellar, the property of Harry and Robert Crawford, and composed some of the bar stock on their hands when the war time prohibition went into effect.

A candy box social will be held at the Fairview school in Muncy Creek township on Friday evening. Ladies are requested to bring boxes.

Died: Lawrence Koons, freight brakeman on the W & N B railroad, was struck by a car of logs standing on the siding near Nordmont Friday afternoon.

Price five cents

The store window at Eddie Doyne's is usually well-done and quite attractive, but now he has come up with a simple but alluring idea for his door. Tacked across the glass is a sign with large printing which reads "Please Open Before Christmas."

For the second time in less than two years, the West Branch Telephone company is seeking an increase in its rates for telephone service, and already at least one objection has been raised to the proposal.

Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Hicks have moved from the Ickes property on Main street to the Day residence on Water.

Among those getting deer were Robert Roller, Ralph Derrick, George Houseknecht, Charles Gansell, Paul Bryan, Gene O'Connor and Delbert Long.

John McCarty was to be installed as master of Eagle Grange No. 1 near Montgomery at the regular organization meeting on Dec. 8.

A double wedding took place Nov. 25 when Miss Norma Kuhns, of Montoursville, became the bride of Paul Harris of Muncy. Also married were Miss Helen Phillips, of Trout Run, and M. Marvin Springman, of near Montoursville.

Dec. 4, 1969

William F. (Billy) Merrill, a Muncy naive who graduated from Muncy high school in 1966, was killed in Viet Nam action on Wednesday, Nov. 26-the day before Thanksgiving.

R.H. Lloyd New Vice President at Muncy Bank

Muncy's historic Log Cabin Inn has been sold to Sterling Kulp, former Montgomery restaurateur, by Mr. and Mrs. Leon Temple, it was revealed this week.

A wedding was held for Miss Margaret Crystal Harer, of Williamsport, to Larry Lowe, of Muncy, on Nov. 28.

In a candlelight service Miss Linda I. Millheim, of Muncy, exchanged wedding vows with Steven Carl Poust, Muncy.

Died: Pierce R. Holmes, 47, formerly of Muncy, Nov. 29; Sadie M. Dimm, 88, Muncy, died Nov. 30.

A area's first wintry weather of the season made an appearance last Wednesday the day before Thanksgiving.

The Luminary recently received word from the PA Newspaper Publisher's Assoc. that the general membership recently passed a resolution honoring the memory of Robert N. Wilt, former owner and publisher of The Luminary. Wilt died on Oct. 29, 1993.

Births: Mr. and Mrs. Michael A. Steinbacher, Muncy, daughter, Nov. 18. Mother former Kelly J. Robbins; Angela Moser, Muncy, son, Nov. 21; Mr. and Mrs. Seth Magargle, Hughesville, son, Nov. 23. Mother former Nola M. Moyer.

Died: Mary A. Fry, 96, Muncy, Nov. 23; Gertrude M. Sterner, 103, formerly of Montgomery, died November; Audrey M. Holdren, Montgomery, Nov. 2.
