John Roy Deming

John Roy Deming, 72, of Muncy, died Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at The Gatehouse.

Born Nov. 29, 1947 in Baltimore, Maryland, he was a son of the late Walter Ray and Isabel Marie (Buchaca) Deming. His wife of 38 years, Bonita Cornelia Deming, preceded him in death on Nov. 10, 2016.

John served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He retired from PP&L after having worked there for over 40 years. He also owned and operated a tree trimming business, John R. Deming General Contracting, for over 30 years.

John was a member of the Third Street United Methodist Church, Williamsport, the Muncy Presbyterian Church, and IBEW 1600. He had a great appreciation for squirrels, and in his free time, he enjoyed playing cards, spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and swimming with his family.

Surviving are a daughter, Carrie (Jason) Gibbs of Brandywine, MD; four sons, John R. (Leslie) Deming II of South Williamsport, Jason Ray Deming of Williamsport, Shawn (Keri) Krause of Picture Rocks, and Matt (Laurie) Deming of Cogan Station; a brother, Paul (Paula) Deming of Albany, NY; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife and parents, John was preceded in death by a sister, Miriam R. Deming.

A memorial service was held Saturday, February 29, at Muncy Presbyterian Church, 10 E. Penn St., Muncy, with Rev. Robert Dunkleberger officiating.

Arrangements have been entrusted to McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, Hughesville.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Fisher House Foundation, 111 Rockville Pike 420, Rockville, M.D. 20850 or Susquehanna Health Foundation, c/o The Gatehouse, 1001 Grampian Blvd., Williamsport, PA 17701.
