The library was bustling with activity this past Saturday with the “Love Your Library” Open House. As soon as guests walked in the doors, they were greeted warmly by library board members who handed out gifts and were all too happy to share information on the many services, programs, and new technologies the library offers. The library was adorned with vases of flowers, Valentine-themed decorations, and colored lights. A nice spread of refreshments and beverages were served. A large collection of the library’s scrapbooks and photo albums of Montgomery history were on display downstairs, giving patrons a sample of the resources available in the history room.
The juvenile book room was filled with kids who were eagerly making happy face heart ornaments that they could choose to take home or hang on the library’s Valentine tree, which was three feet high and wrapped with lights. It was covered in brightly-colored foam hearts that were decorated with “googly” eyes and
the children took great pride in hanging their sweet little masterpieces on its branches. Craft activities were overseen by Library Director Nicole Loffredo, or “Miss Nicole” as she’s known to the town’s little ones who enjoy the library’s many activities. Assistant librarian Cynthia Bryan was also in attendance, running the library’s operations during the event and helping out as needed. Overall, it was a great event to showcase what a gem the library is to our community.

Three Montgomery Area High School students went to Danville this past weekend to participate in the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association
District 8 Band Festival. The band members were seniors Breanna Gardner (flute) and Emily Wolfgang (clarinet), and freshman Gavin Rine (contra-clarinet). The Montgomery Area High School band is under the direction of Mr. Brian Rehn. Congratulations and many thanks to Mr. Rehn and the students for representing Montgomery!
Lots of loving birthday wishes are sent to my sweet great-aunt, Doris Baysore, who marks her special day Feb. 19. Happy birthday, Aunt Doris!
Happy birthday to Brittany Ring, who will be celebrating her special day Feb. 23.

New volunteers are needed for the Montgomery Emergency Management Agency. Call Dennis Gruver at (570) 547-6777 for more information.
Our local fire companies need volunteers to serve as emergency responders as well as in a variety of non-emergency support roles. To learn how you can help contact either the Montgomery Volunteer Fire Company at (570) 547-1380 or the Clinton Township Fire Department at (570) 547-1000.

Wednesday, Feb. 19-Children ages 1-5 are invited to the library for Toddler Tales from 11-noon. Activities include a story, snack, and
craft. Preregister at (570) 547-6212 and plan to accompany your child.
Thursday, Feb. 20-Montgomery Area Historical Society’s Third Thursday Talk will be about the Montgomery Opera House. It will be held
in the Adam Room Museum at 6:30 p.m. and will conclude with an Open House. The event is free and open to the public.
Sunday, Feb. 23-Virtuoso will have an All-You-Can-Eat breakfast fundraiser at the Oak Grove Community Center from 8-11 a.m. The menu
includes: French toast, pancakes, eggs, bacon, ham, sausage, sausage gravy, biscuits, fried potatoes, fruit, and a selection of beverages.
Sunday, Feb. 23-Montgomery Area Little League will have a Vera Bradley bingo fundraiser at noon at the Independent Fire Company in South
Williamsport. Doors open at 11 a.m.
Tuesday, Feb. 25-The library will have luau camp for ages 8 and above at 6 p.m. This is the first of three in a series of camp programs.
Tuesday, Feb. 25-The Senior High Concert Band and the Jazz Band will have their Winter Concert in the high school auditorium at 7 p.m.
Wednesday, Feb. 26-The Grace Presbyterian Church and the First Presbyterian Church of Watsontown will be joining together for an Ash
Wednesday service at 7 p.m. at the Grace church on Second Street. The community is welcome to attend.
Saturday, Feb. 29-First United Methodist Church will have a soup and sticky bun sale from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. The soup choices are beef
vegetable, chicken corn, ham and bean, white chicken chili, and chicken and gnocchi. Pre-orders can be placed by calling (570) 547-6948
and leaving a message.
