Dementia care community opens

Heritage Springs Memory Care’s Montoursville Community is a secured living space that has been designed to allow its residents the freedom to wander throughout their neighborhood and enclosed courtyards. The newly constructed community is conveniently positioned minutes away from Williamsport. Located on 878 Old Cement Road, the facility is off of Lycoming Mall Drive, and close to Interstate 180.

President/CEO Colleen Fritz, RN, PCHA, welcomed nearly 60 people at the beginning of the open house and building dedication, was visibly pleased with the new facility.

“The need for a facility that specializes in dementia care is great here in Lycoming County,” Fritz said, adding that it broke her heart to have to turn people away at the Lewisburg facililty.

The Lewisburg facility employes over 60 people, and that amount is anticipated to be needed at the Montoursville community, Fritz said.

Two neighborhoods complete the new community; each housing 30 residents, for a total of 60 private and semi-private suites. The mirrored neighborhoods offer the familiar comforts of home and more, including both a main and private dining room, cozy living room with fireplace, an old-fashioned soda shop, and a beautiful and secure courtyard with wandering path.

Several physicians and healthcare support offices are also nearby for easy access to specialized medical care.

The community not only provides a nurturing environment for seniors with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, but around-the-clock comprehensive care services designed to enhance the individual’s life. As a specialized senior living community, dementia care is all they do, making them the go-to experts in the Susquehanna Valley.

Utilizing a service program called “Living in the Moment,” residents can life to the fullest, while lessening the frustration of daily tasks, allowing for superior, individualized, focused care.

Residents are provided with three delicious meals in the dining room, as well as snacks throughout the day. Planned day-to-day activities and daily living tasks are enhanced by therapeutic communication techniques specifically developed for people with memory impairments. Small outings and other supervised social activities in the community are also planned for residents’ entertainment. And if residents just need some time to relax, the on-site beauty salon/spa provides the perfect pampering.
