Fire company accepting donations after firefighter loses home to flames

By Staff | Dec 11, 2019

HUGHESVILLE-Volunteer firefighters came together to help one of their own on Wednesday morning, Dec. 4, when flames broke out early in a mobile home belonging to a member of the Picture Rocks Volunteer Fire Company.

No one was at the property when a neighbor saw smoke pouring from the home of Zach Babb, 152 Boak Ave., just before 7 a.m.

No one was injured, but Babb’s two dogs perished in the fire.

Donations in the form of money, gift cards and clothing are being accepted Monday evenings at the fire company, to which Babb is also a volunteer. Drop-off time is 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Clothing sizes include men’s pants size 36/32, extra large shrits, shoes and boots size 11 1/2. Toys and 5T clothing for Babb’s son are also needed.

Firemen from Picture Rocks, Muncy Township, Muncy Creek Township and Montgomery also responded.

Picture Rocks Fire Chief Larry Ryder said Babb has been a volunteer firefighter in the company for at least 10 years, had already left at work when the fire broke out.

Trooper Nicholas Loffredo, a state police fire marshal, responded to the scene, but the cause of the fire, which destroyed the mobile home, remained undetermined.

Babb was staying with relatives.
