Charges dismissed against former Montgomery officer

By Staff | Feb 12, 2020

Sexual assault-related charges against a former Montgomery Borough policeman have been dismissed, although the defendant pled guilty to disorderly conduct in relation to the incident.

State police alleged Laurence C. Wilcox Jr., 70, while acting as a patrolman in Montgomery Borough, sexually assaulted a woman in her Clinton Township home on July 6, 2018.

District Judge Christian Frey dismissed Wilcox’s charges of attempted rape by forcible compulsion and aggravated indecent assault without consent in April 2019 at a preliminary hearing.

Recently, the Lycoming County District Attorney’s office moved to dismiss the remaining felony charges. Instead, prosecutors introduced an amended charge of disorderly conduct, which Wilcox pled guilty to.

Judge Marc F. Lovecchio then dismissed all remaining sexual assault-related charges.

Wilcox was sentenced to six months probation, with the ability to seek administrative release after three months, and to pay the cost of prosecution.
