HUGHESVILLE – A contractor hired to repair a leaky pipe at a Hughesville home is accused of running off with an insurance check and junking the homeowner’s car.

Ronald O. “Jammie” Heatley Jr., 44, of 143 Elm St., Scranton, was charged by borough police for taking Mary Anne Pienta’s vehicle Aug. 5 to a Williamsport scrap dealer, where he allegedly deposited the Nissan valued at $2,500.

Heatley also is accused of cashing and keeping $968 meant to repair water damage at Pienta’s 191 N. Third St. house on Aug. 11.

Charges of theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property and theft by deception were filed against Heatley when he was arraigned Thursday by District Judge C. Roger McRae.

Heatley was committed to the county prison in lieu of $25,000 bail.
