Speeding stop leads to drug arrest

Shortly after buying “a bundle of heroin” in Loyalsock Township, motorist Jonathan Earl Smith was stopped for speeding on Interstate 180 in Montoursville, according to state police, who seized five packets of the controlled substance from the 23-year-old man during the stop.

While he was being questioned on the interstate by a state trooper, Smith admitted that he had “just shot up (used)” heroin in the car, police said.

Smith of 152 Boak Ave, Wolf Township, was stopped about 2:15 p.m. on June 25 when he was caught traveling 71 mph in a 55 mph speed zone, police said.

Following his arraignment Sept. 14 before District Judge Allen P. Page III on charges of possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, speeding and driving with a suspended license, Smith was released on $2,500 bail.
