ELIMSPORT

Two men were flown to the hospital Monday, October 26 after a one-vehicle crash in Franklin Township.

Troopers said witnesses saw a truck speeding in the wrong lane of Route 554 near Elimsport when it went off the road and hit a tree. The driver and the passenger were freed from the wreckage. Both occupants were flown by life flight helicopters to Geisinger Medical Center after they were extricated. Their names have not been released.

A section of Route 554 was closed for several hours while troopers investigated the crash.

A South Williamsport man has been released from an area hospital following a Monday vehicle crash that killed his roommate.

John Smith, no age given, was discharged Friday from Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, a hospital nursing supervisor said Saturday.

State police said Smith was riding in a pickup truck that slammed into a tree at 10:40 a.m. near Sulphur Spring and Bower roads, Washington Township.

The driver, Matthew Knoop, 21, died from his injuries, according to Montour County Coroner Scott Lynn.
