HUGHESVILLE – Two 25-year-old men have been jailed after a neighbor discovered them in his Cottage Street apartment on June 7, according to borough police.

Richard Allen Smith III and Nicholas William Spofford, both of whom live in the apartment complex at 60 Cottage St., were arrested about 9:45 p.m., shortly after Jeff Myers returned home to his apartment in the same complex.

Upon arriving at the apartments, Myers saw Smith fleeing the victim’s apartment, leaving the door open, police said. When he stepped inside, Myers saw Spofford in the apartment holding a compact disc case.

Police said several items stolen from the apartment were recovered from Smith’s and Spofford’s apartment.

Following their arraignment early Thursday morning before District Judge James G. Carn on charges of burglary, felony trespassing, theft, receiving stolen property and conspiracy, both men were committed to the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $25,000 bail each.
