Man in custody on mental health warrant
ELIMSPORT – Last Friday afternoon’s drama north of Sulphur Springs Road (Route 554) was sparked by a distraught man armed with a long gun who threatened to harm himself, according to state police.
Troopers initially were dispatched to a home on Mountain Road for a domestic disturbance.
At one point, an armed resident bolted from the house into a heavily wooded area and remained at bay for several hours before he was taken into custody without incident.
As a precaution, much of the area was cordoned by state troopers until the incident was resolved. A state police helicopter crew assisted at the scene.
“We took the man into custody with a mental health warrant,” a trooper said Monday, adding that the man was undergoing an evaluation and treatment at a mental health facility. No charges were filed.
