MUNCY – A local man is accused by Muncy Borough police of failing to perform auto work he was paid to do for an area woman.

Steven J. Schramm, 41, of 710 Weldon St., Montoursville, allegedly accepted money in February 2009 from Suzan Palmeter of Muncy as a down payment to repair a transmission in her 2000 Dodge Caravan.

Schramm reportedly accepted more money later when he said it was needed for the service.

Charged with theft by deception for allegedly not doing any auto work, Schramm is accused of taking a total of $965 from Palmeter for what he said was parts, labor, taxes and towing needs.

Arraigned Friday before District Judge James H. Sortman, Schramm is in the county prison in lieu of $15,000 bail.

A hearing is scheduled before District Judge C. Roger McRae.
