Motorist intoxicated and charged with DUI

MUNCY – A motorist who was discovered throwing up in the middle of Beagle Club Road near the Upper Fairfield-Muncy township line about 12:30 a.m. Feb. 15 turned out to be intoxicated, state police allege.

Troopers Justin Bieber and Richard Holz were on routine patrol when they came upon a car in the middle of the road.

The driver, identified as Drew Allen Abernatha, 22, of 708 Fairfield Church Road, Fairfield Township, “was hanging out the driver’s door vomiting,” Bieber wrote in an affidavit.

Abernatha then drove the car forward, pulling to the side of the road, where he again started vomiting, Bieber said. The trooper stopped to offer assistance.

Abernatha’s eyes were bloodshot and his speech was slurred, Bieber said. The driver failed two field sobriety tests. He was then taken to the Muncy Valley Hospital, where he agreed to have his blood drawn. His blood-alcohol content level was .16, Bieber said.

Charged with driving under the influence of intoxicants, Abernatha has been been sent a summons to appear before District Judge C. Roger McRae.
