Two allegedly kayaked while drunk
MUNCY – Two kayakers on the West Branch of the Susquehanna River have been charged with operating a watercraft under the influence of alcohol or controlled substances, according to court records filed by the state Fish and Boat Commission.
Travis M. Mann, 21, of 708 W. Third St., and Brent C. Carnahan, 24, of 414 S. Washington St., were both charged following an incident on July 16 when they returned to a boat launch in Muncy Creek Township.
A water conservation officer noticed that both men’s eyes were red, bloodshot and glassy. A moderate to strong odor of alcohol came from their mouths, the officer said in affidavits.
Mann, who had 14 empty beer cans in his kayak, had a blood-alcohol content level of .12 while Carnahan, who had 16 empty beer cans in his kayak, had a blood-alcohol content level of .13, investigators said.
The two have been sent a summons to appear today for a preliminary hearing before District Judge C. Roger McRae.
