MUNCY- A former employee of JC Penney store at the Lycoming Mall faces charges after allegedly stealing more than $2,500 from the store over a two-month period.

Audrey Lynn Pompeo, 26, of Louisville, Ky. has been charged with 18 counts of retail theft for more than 40 allegedly fraudulent transactions, according to court records.

On April 23, state police were contacted by the store in connection with its alleged discoveries.

Store officials were able to provide police with a log sheet and a written statement in which Pompeo allegedly admits to processing 44 fraudulent return transactions.

According to police, Pomeo, a cashier, would ring up a customer’s purchase and retain their receipts. Then, she would run the item through the register as if it had been returned, remove the money from the till, and pocket the money.

Charges against Pompeo have been filed by state police at the office of District Judge Jon E. Kemp.
