Fire damages antique store
MUNCY – Local businessman Rod Houseknecht, owner of the Antique Trunk Collectibles antique shop, of Muncy, said he was just having a normal day before passersbys alerted that smoke was coming out of the roof of his store.
“We couldn’t smell smoke or anything downstairs,” Houseknecht said. He explained that there were customers in the shop at the time of the blaze, but everyone was able to make it out safely.
“We couldn’t even find any fire to try and put out upstairs, it was all up in the overhangs. We have no idea how it began,” Houseknecht said.
Members of the Muncy Volunteer Fire Department responded to the fire at about 1:30 p.m.
“We had the fire out in about twenty minutes, but we still don’t know what started it,” said Chief Scott Delany. He said that the blaze originated somewhere in the attic. The flames caused significant damage to the top floor of the building.
Damage estimates have yet to be calculated, but Houseknecht said that he had fire insurance on the building. However, he explained that the antiques he sells were not insured.
“You can’t insure antiques, they’re too expensive,” he explained.
Muncy firefighters were assisted by members of the Picture Rocks and Pennsdale fire companies.
