Dog owner killed a puppy, officer says
MONTGOMERY – Donuae M. Murray, 26, of 55 W. Houston Ave., was charged with cruelty to animals after her 3-month-old puppy died from being left outside in intense summer afternoon heat, according to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
A passerby alerted borough police after finding the puppy dead in Murray’s yard on Aug. 3, a day in which the temperature was in the mid 90s, the SPCA said.
The puppy had been tied to a steel post with no water and no shade.
“The dog struggled to free itself but died in the process,” said Lawrence Woltz, an SPCA humane officer.
It is believed the dog died of heat exhaustion, investigators said.
Arraigned last week before District Judge Jon E. Kemp, Murray was released on $5,000 bail.
