Shoplifters face drug charges

PENNSDALE – Two alleged shoplifters who fled Hollister’s at the Lycoming Mall with $99 worth of merchandise concealed in a backpack also face drug charges after Muncy Township police found a pack of heroin and the stolen merchandise in their vehicle.

The theft occurred on June 20, and police stopped and questioned pickup truck driver Mark Anthony Brickley, 27, of Howard, and passenger Dustin Scott Askey, 28, of Mill Hall, soon after it occurred.

Brickley refused to allow police to search the vehicle so the truck was impounded and an officer searched it after obtaining a search warrant the next day. Heroin, drug paraphernalia and a pair of stolen shorts were found in the vehicle, police said.

Brickley and Askey were recently arraigned before District Judge Jon E. Kemp on charges of possession of heroin, shoplifting, receiving stolen property, possession of an instrument of crime and possession of drug paraphernalia. The two remain jailed in the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $40,000 bail each.
