Crash sends 2 to hospital
UNITYVILLE – A 39-year-old woman was critically injured Monday afternoon, August 26, when her stopped SUV was struck from behind by a tractor-trailer at a road construction zone on Route 118 in Jordan Township, according to state police.
The impact pushed the woman’s 2001 Kia Sorento into the back of a stopped 2003 Subaru Forester that was driven by Lydia James, 21, of Hughesville, police said.
The 4 p.m. crash shut down the two-lane state road for several hours.
The operator of the rig, Dennis Sehic, 29, of St. Louis, Mo., was westbound when he slammed into the Sorento, police said. The identities of the Sorento driver and a male juvenile riding in the SUV were not released.
Upon being hit, James’ vehicle rotated clockwise and went off the north side of the road, police said. The Sorento also rotated clockwise, but the driver’ door then struck a utility pole, police said.
Both the unidentified injured woman and her passenger were admitted to the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, police said. The boy suffered moderate injuries, police said.
James was taken by ambulance to the Muncy Valley Hospital while Sehic escaped injury.
