Storm causes power outages
HUGHESVILLE – An intense late afternoon thunderstorm pounded the area and parts of Wolf and Muncy Creek Townships on Wednesday, September 12, knocking down several trees and causing sporadic power outages, according to Hughesville borough Fire Chief Steve Stiger.
“We had between 10 to 12 weather-related emergency calls, most of them involving trees or wires down,” Stiger said.
PPL crews were in the area working to restore service , he said. Several residents lost power.
Fire Capt. David Braun said an electrical fire at a home in the 1700 block of Clarkstown Road about 4:30 p.m. may have been caused by the storm.
Wires underneath a clothes dryer duct caught fire, filling part of the home with smoke, Braun said. Exhaust fans were used to clear smoke from the property. No one was displace by the small fire.
