MONTGOMERY – When borough police officers confronted Preston L. Farrar, 20, of 32 Main St., in regards to items stolen from Wal-Mart in Montoursville one day prior, he allegedly became uncooperative and resisted arrest in his home on March. 27, police said.

As an officer approached Preston with handcuffs, he allegedly raised his “arms up and away to avoid being handcuffed,” eventually raising “his hand with a fist as if he was going to punch the officer,” an affidavit said. Preston was quickly tackled by another officer assisting in the investigation.

Preston also faces shoplifting charges for allegedly stealing $273 worth of merchandise from Wal-Mart on March 26.

The merchandise consisted of several pocket knives, speakers and pens, police said.

Following his Wednesday arraignment before District Judge Gary A. Whiteman on charges of resisting arrest and shoplifting, Preston was committed to Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $5,000 bail.
