Man allegedly beats girlfriend, holds knife to toddler’s throat

HUGHESVILLE – A 20 year old father has been locked up on charges stemming from a domestic disturbance with his girlfriend in which he allegedly put a 6-inch knife to his 17-month old daughter’s throat, according to state Trooper Ryan Golla.

During the disturbance, which occurred at a home n Willow Street in Wolf Township, Edward Joseph Bower Jr., also “repeatedly struck his girlfriend in the head, arms and torso,” Golla alluded in an affidavit.

Bower appear;ntly was upset with the woman because he was unhappy with her looking at a certain Facebook page, Golla said. He threw the girl onto the bed,”then held a knife to her throat,” according to the affidavit.

Bower did “calm down, apologize and fell asleep,” the woman told the trooper.

A relative reported the Oct. 5 assault three days later, Golla said. When questioned about bruises on her face, the girl friend told police she hard been “struck by her daughter’s toy.”

The woman started crying and told Golla that Bower allegedly struck her.

Arraigned before District Judge Allen P. Page III on charges of recklessly endangering, simple assault, endangering the welfare of a child and harassment, Bower, of 534 W. Creek Road, Cogan Station, was committed to Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $125,000 bail.
