Muncy police warns community about scams

By Staff | Feb 25, 2015

MUNCY – Borough police are warning businesses and residents to be on their guard for a scam in which a caller attempts to trick people into sending money immediately to a utility company through a third party.

One business in the borough recently was tricked after it was misinformed that its electricity would be turned off immediately if it did not pay its bill at once, Police Chief James Dorman said.

“It was a male caller. I’m worried that they will start calling the elderly and others who are vulnerable to such scams,” Dorman said.

He said if one gets such a call, hang up at once, call the utility company and the police.
