HUGHESVILLE – A Race Street man faces charges for allegedly cutting down and removing a tree on Wolf Township property owned by the Hughesville Water Authority on Dec. 21, according to state police.

A bench warrant was expected to be issued last week for Peter Gregory Crawford, of 317 Race St., after the 46-year-old man failed to appear for a preliminary hearing Friday, March 6 at the office of District Judge Jon E. Kemp.

In addition to cutting down the tree, police allege Crawford illegally moved poles and metal pipes to block access to the property, which is at the end of Fourth Street, police said.

Crawford faces further court action on charges of theft, criminal mischief and trespassing following the hearing, which was held in his absence.
