2 accused of shoplifting together
PENNSDALE – After they were caught together allegedly shoplifting several DVDs and video games at Target on Tuesday, Kyle Lee Aunkst and Thomas Stortenbecker Jr. were taken to the Muncy Township police station to be processed.
While there, the 25-year-old Aunkst stole Stortenbecker’s wallet after the man put it down on a table, police allege in court papers.
The theft was caught on police station’s surveillance video which an officer reviewed the next day only after it was brought to his attention that Stortenbecker’s wallet was missing.
Shortly after he was caught at the Lycoming Crossing department store, Stortenbecker was placed in the Snyder County Prison on a probation violation. His age and address were not available. He is expected to be charged at a later date.
Meanwhile, Aunkst, of 944 Broad St., Montoursville, was arraigned late Thursday afternoon before District Judge Jon E. Kemp on charges of misdemeanor shoplifting, receiving stolen property, theft, conspiracy and possession of drug paraphernalia.
After obtaining a search warrant, police seized hypodermic needles and empty packets with heroin residue in them from the car Aunkst and Stortenbecker drove to Target, court records state. Aunkst was placed in the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $35,000 bail.
