HUGHESVILLE – Over 4,000 PPL customers in the area were without power anywhere from 30 minutes to just under three hours after a squirrel caused “a fault” at the PPL substation outside the borough about 7 a.m. Wednesday, May 27 according to Teri J, MacBride, a spokeswoman for the utility company.

When the animal came in contact with some equipment at the station, it affected two circuits, MacBride said.

While service was restored for about 2,000 customers in about 30 minutes, others had to wait longer until necessary repairs were completed, she added. Everyone had service restored just before 10 a.m.
