Man fires off gun in bathroom

MUNCY – A Sullivan County man faces charges for allegedly firing a handgun inside a bathroom at Hull’s Landing, 27 Route 442, while there were 100 patrons in the establishment, according to state Trooper David Walker.

Cody Ray Harriman, 24, of Sonestown, has been charged with recklessly endangering and criminal mischief as a result of the incident that occurred about 1 a.m. April 12, Walker said.

The trooper said Harriman told him that he “was attempting to commit suicide, but changed his mind, and that the gun accidentally went off when he tried to unload it.”

The owner of the business, Alem Hull, told Walker he was upstairs in his office when he “heard what he thought was a gunshot.”

When Hull came downstairs, he saw Harriman “with a bleeding wound on his left hand. Harriman handed over a handgun to Hull,” Walker said in an affidavit.

Hull went to a bathroom, where he recovered a spent casing from a sink just “below a damaged mirror,” Walker said.

Responding to investigate a report of “a gunshot being fired” inside the bar, Walker first spoke to Hull when he arrived on the scene. Hull pointed to Harriman who had “bloody bandages” wrapped around his left hand.

Walker took Harriman to a medical facility to get treatment for his injuries. Harriman has been sent a summons to appear later this month for a preliminary hearing before District Judge Jon E. Kemp.
