Man dies, 2 hurt in crash
CLARKSTOWN – A Hughesville area man was killed and two other people were injured in a two-vehicle crash at Route 442 and Clarkstown Road in Muncy Creek Township about 4:30 p.m. Monday, according to state Trooper Richard Holz.
Roy I. Walters, 77, of Hughesville, was pronounced dead at the scene by Chief Deputy County Coroner Jerold Ross following the 4:30 p.m. crash.
Driving a Chevrolet Impala, Walters was heading northbound on Clarkstown Road and had stopped for a stop sign at Route 442, Holz said. Walters then pulled out into the intersection, directly into the path of a Ford Explorer driven by Shane E. Gray, 36, also of Hughesville, who was traveling east, Holz said.
A passenger in Walters’ car, Beverly J. Walters, 72, also of Hughesville, suffered moderate injuries and was taken by ambulance to the Williamsport Regional Medical Center, Police did not say how she was related to the driver.
Gray was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
Muncy Area volunteer firefighters and fire police responded to the crash as did state Department of Transportation employees.
Fire officials said the woman already was out of the car when they arrived on the scene. In order to free the driver, firefighters had to remove the car’s roof.
Traffic was detoured around the crash site via a side street.
This is the third traffic fatality in the region in as many weeks.
Peter Crawford, 47, of Hughesville, along with two dogs, perished a fiery one-vehicle crash on Buckhill Road near Hughesville on Oct. 23, according to state police.
In a two-vehicle crash on Lycoming Mall Drive near Pennsdale, 23-year-old Matthew S. Edmondson, of Montoursville, was killed when his car, traveling at a very high-rate of speed, and an SUV collided near the Fort Muncy Garden Center on Oct. 20.
A family of four riding in the SUV was treated at the Muncy Valley Hospital for minor injuries, according to Muncy Township police.
