MUNCY – State police released details concerning last Wednesday night’s crash on Muncy Exchange Road that claimed the life of 51-year-old Karl “Curt” Smith Jr., of Muncy.

Smith was heading south on Muncy Exchange Road, just east of the borough, when he lost control of his pickup truck, which went off the road and struck a tree head-on about 9:20 p.m., police said.

Muncy Area volunteer firefighters and emergency medical technicians responded to the crash. Smith was loaded into an ambulance and taken to a helicopter that landed in a nearby church parking lot along Clarkstown Road. He was flown to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, where he died last Thursday of his injuries, according to investigators.
