Armed robber holds up Swisher’s

By Staff | Jan 22, 2016

HUGHESVILLE – A gunman walked into Swisher’s Quick Store at 170 N. Main St. and held up a female clerk about 10:50 a.m. Tuesday, January 12, according to borough Police Chief Rod Smith.

No one was injured, and the bandit made off with an undisclosed amount of cash, Smith said.

The robber was described as white, slender build, about 6 feet tall, wearing dark clothing, a blue bandanna over much of his face and a pair of gloves, Smith said. The gunman also was wearing glasses.

No customers were in the store at the time. A witness reported last seeing the robber behind the store, Smith added.

The police department’s dog, Bear, initially picked up a scent at the scene and followed it for about 3 blocks but then lost it, Smith said.

It was possible the suspect might have gotten into a vehicle at that point, but that could not be substantiated, Smith said.

This was the third robbery in the region in five days.
