Flames rip through home on Broad Street
MONTGOMERY – A house fire broke out at 9:18 p.m. Thursday night at 76 Broad St., according to Jeff Hutchinson at the county Emergency Communications Center.
Montgomery Volunteer Fire Co. and six other departments responded to the call and battled flames that caused major damage.
“The fire rapidly progressed, and when I arrived on scene the second floor was heavily involved in fire,” said Montgomery Assistant Fire Chief Mike Magyar. The cause of the fire is still unknown.
Magyar said a neighbor spotted flames and smoke coming from the home shortly after 9 p.m. No one was home at the time of the fire.
The names of the home’s residents were not released.
“It’s looking like a total loss at this point,” Magyar said.
Firefighters remained on the scene until about midnight.
The blaze remains under investigation. “It doesn’t appear to be suspicious,” Magyar said.
In addition to Montgomery, fire fighters from Clinton Township, Washington Township, Montoursville, South Williamsport and Warrior Run responded to the blaze.
“It was a job well done by all parties involved,” Magyar said.
