HUGHESVILLE – Three sets of criminal charges have been filed against 39-year-old Rodney David Wertz in which his mother, Sharon, was the victim in two of the cases, according to court records filed by Hughesville and Muncy Township police.

In mid-May, he sold his mother’s car to Jodi Peterman, but Wertz never gave the money to his mother, borough police said in court records.

Wertz, of 162 W. Academy St., allegedly also stole $1,000 from Peterman, police said.

Around the same time, Wertz used his mother’s identity and personal information to set up an account with AT&T, Muncy Township police alleged. He then charged more than $4,000 on the account at AT&T’s outlet store at Lycoming Mall, police added.

In the third case, Wertz allegedly stole Aaron and Michelle Andrews’ iPad from the first block of South Broad Street on June 2, borough police said.

Facing charges of felony theft by deception, identity theft and related offenses, Wertz recently was arraigned before District Judge Jon E. Kemp and committed to the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $135,000 bail.
