A young Montgomery area man was killed early Saturday morning when his motorcycle crashed into a light post at Market and Willow streets, according to city police.

Eric McElrath, 26, was pronounced dead on arrival at the UPMC Susquehanna Williamsport Regional Medical Center shortly after the 1:45 a.m. crash, Lycoming County Coroner Charles E. Kiessling Jr. said.

Kiessling said he was told McElrath, who was wearing a helmet, was traveling north of Market Street when he lost control of his cycle which slammed into the light post.

McElrath died of blunt force trauma injuries, Kiessling added.
