Truck catches fire on Pond Road

By Staff | Nov 15, 2017

PENNSDALE – A section of Interstate 180 got a bit smoky for motorists early last Thursday afternoon when a man’s pickup truck caught fire on nearby Pond Road, Muncy Township Police Chief Christopher McKibben.

When the fire was reported about 12:30 p.m., McKibben could see light smoke as he responded from the area of Lycoming Crossing.

William Ungard, of Picture Rocks, was driving in the 400 block of Pond Road when his 1991 Toyota truck caught fire, McKibben said. The driver safely got out of the vehicle.

“The smoke covered all of Pond Road,” he added.

The entire vehicle was engulfed in flames when McKibben arrived on the scene. In the back of the truck was a spare tire and rubber mats, which McKibben said likely caused the smoke to become black as it blew in a southerly direction.

Pennsdale volunteer firefighters responded and put out the fire.

The cause of the fire was undetermined, according to authorities.
