A Hughesville man faces serious assault charges for threatening to kill his brother before slicing him with a sword last Saturday.

William Henry Wingfield III, 47, was sleeping in his room at 10 Foust Hill Road, in Hughesville, when he heard someone come into the house at about 7 a.m.

It was allegedly his brother, Daniel Rob Wingfield, 49, who lives in the same home, police said.

As he walked up the stairs Daniel Wingfield began yelling, his brother told police.

He then approached the bed and raised a full-length silver sword above his head, said “I’m going to kill you, (expletive,)” and swung it downward at his brother laying in the bed, police said. William Wingfield caught the sword in mid-air with his right hand. The blade left a two-inch gash in his palm, police said.

After blocking the blade from coming down on his torso, William Wingfield said his brother asked him, “What are you doing, (expletive)? I’m trying to kill you.”

The affidavit filed by state police didn’t specify a reason for the incident.

When their father heard the fight and came into the bedroom, Daniel Wingfield fled the house and ran into the woods near the property, police said.

Police responded when William Wingfield called 911. While searching the woods, police found Daniel Wingfield. After a brief foot chase, police said they shot him with a Tazer.

Daniel Wingfield was charged with aggravated and simple assault, terroristic threats, reckless endangerment of another person and harassment.

He is jailed in the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $25,000 bail.
